Missio Ad Gentes Today: Towards New Horizons
“The heart of mission is certainly the Gospel. It goes without saying, but it is better to repeat it than to omit it: the mission of the Church is always and everywhere to offer every person the possibility of knowing Christ and his Gospel. This treasure is destined for the heart, for the deepest and most mysterious part of the person.”
For the Jubilee of the Missions (October 4th - 5th), the Dicastery for Evangelization and the Pontifical Mission Societies organized Missio Ad Gentes Today: Towards New Horizons; an international missionary meeting keynoted by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and Cardinal Giorgio Marengo.
Cardinal Tagle emphasized three points to propel our proclamation of mission, those being mission and concrete Catholicity, mission as the epiphany of God’s saving plan, and missiological studies. His Eminence Cardinal Marengo, Apostolic Prefect of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, entitled his address Whispering the Gospel Beyond All Borders & Barriers. It’s whispered, he said, because “it’s a delicate action; it requires trust, and it presupposes a relationship of sincere friendship.” His full text can also be accessed here.
