Australia
February 11, 1901
The Pallottine mission in Australia began in early 1901, when the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith entrusted the Society with responsibility for an Aboriginal apostolate in Western Australia. The first missionaries arrived at the Fremantle port on February 11, 1901, led by Fr. George Walter, SAC, who had previously served in Cameroon before being expelled by French colonial authorities.
Their earliest work was centered in Beagle Bay, a remote mission that presented significant linguistic, cultural, and environmental challenges. Over time, the Pallottines expanded beyond the Kimberley region and established additional communities in Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney.
The Australian mission has since developed into a stable pastoral and intercultural presence, offering parish ministry, Indigenous outreach, and various apostolic works in urban and rural fields.
