Cameroon
October 25, 1890
The Pallottine mission in Cameroon began on 25 October 1890, when Bishop Heinrich Vieter, SAC, arrived in Douala. This mission marked the establishment not only of Pallottine activity but also of the modern Catholic Church in Cameroon.
On 8 December 1890 (Feast of the Immaculate Conception), Vieter celebrated Mass in Marienberg, where the first church constructed by the German missionaries was consecrated to Our Lady, Queen of Apostles.
After the First World War, the Pallottines were expelled, leading to new missionary initiatives in South Africa and Australia.
Today, the Cameroonian mission has grown into an independent Province within the Society of the Catholic Apostolate.
